FORT MADISON - A three-minute stretch in the first quarter and a 3-point 3rd quarter was the undoing for the Holy Trinity girls basketball team Friday night in 53-26 loss to visiting Danville in Southeast Iowa Superconference basketball action.

The Crusaders led 4-3 with four minutes gone in the first period before Danville went on a 16-3 tear to end the period including a couple of three pointers from Gracie Grothe and McKenzie Speer.

The only offense the Crusaders could muster was points off the dribble penetration of senior Brett Schneider, who led HTC with 15 points on the night.

The Crusaders were able to better control Danville's outside shooting in the 2nd quarter and outscored the visitors 11-9, but a third period that only saw the Crusaders score three points put the game out of reach as Danville scored 15, with seven different players scoring for the Bears.

"We struggled to get into our offense against their pressure defense," said Head Coach Tony Johnson. "We once again killed ourselves with turnovers and no rebounding on either end of the floor."

The Bears pulled down 34 rebounds on the night.

"We will get back to work tomorrow and get ready for Wapello and hopefully carry some momentum into the Christmas break."

Eryn Anderson had four points for HTC, while Emily Box, Madison Mohrfeld and Avery Hopper each had two points and Mya Lawlor tossed in a point.

The 3-5 Crusaders will host Wapello in a girls/boys varsity double header beginning at 6 p.m. on Tuesday
