MT. PLEASANT - Mt. Pleasant got 24 points, including 16 in the first half from junior Maddie Williamson, as the Panthers downed Fort Madison 58-27 Friday night in Southeast Conference girls basketball action.

The Hounds were only in it at the beginning when Sara Bernhart scored to tie the game at 2. The Hounds defensive held up through most of the first quarter however, holding the Panthers to just six points in the period. The Hounds didn't score again in the quarter after Bernhart's bucket.

Mt. Pleasant unlocked the secret of the Hounds defense in the second period exploding for 18 points as both teams started a more fast-paced contest. The Hounds, which have been struggling scoring, got on track in the 2nd period as well putting up 13 points, tied for the most in any quarter this year.

Bernhart, who finished with 13 points on the night for the Hounds, accounted for eight of the 2nd quarter points, but the Hounds were down 26-15 headed into the half. The Hounds kept the game respectable in the third quarter scoring 11 points, but the Panthers put up 17. Then Fort Madison's shooting went ice cold in a fourth quarter where the Hounds scored one point.

Anna Kester and Braxtyn McGhghy each scored five points on the night, Maddie Rashid added three and senior Kamryn Bailey added a point.

The Hounds dropped a 47-22 loss against West Hancock on Tuesday night in Warsaw. Bernhart again led the Hounds with 10 points. Bailey scored four in her return from a 11-day concussion absence. Kester, Dalyn Wondra, Kylie Cashman and Rashid all had two points for the Hounds in the loss. Wondra led FM with five rebounds.

The Hounds travel to Iowa City Liberty on Saturday before going to Quincy to face Illini West in the John Wood Shootout. The Hounds are then on winter break until Jan. 2
