Jean E. Bergman, 54 years, of Donnellson, Iowa died at 1:47 pm Monday, December 18, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. She was born June 8, 1963 in DeWitt, Iowa, the youngest daughter of Edward “Ed” and Clarabelle (Puetsch) Claussen. On May 16, 1987, she married Fritz Bergman in Davenport, Iowa.

Jean grew up in the McCausland, Iowa area. She earned her business administration degree from St. Ambrose University. She worked for the City of Fort Madison as the RSVP Director and then the accounting clerk for the Water Department for a total of 16 years. She was an active member of P.E.O. Chapter BS, where she held several offices, including President. In 2003, she was honored by the Fort Madison Chapter of Soroptimist International as their Woman of the Year for her many years of volunteer work. She was a member of Holy Family Parish. She liked to do gardening and canning. She enjoyed traveling, including recent trips to Chicago, Alaska, and Hawaii.

She is survived by her husband, Fritz Bergman of Donnellson; one son Ryan (Kayla) Bergman of Nevada, Iowa; one daughter Kelsey Bergman of Donnellson; two brothers, Sonny (Connie) Claussen of Platteville, Wisconsin and Bob Claussen of Davenport; three sisters: Kathern (Bob) Misch of Wheatfield, Indiana, Linda (Leroy) Paustian of Walcott, Iowa, and Darlene (Jim) Johnston of DeWitt; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Her family will greet friends from 5:30 - 7:00 pm Thursday, December 21, 2017 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Friday, December 22, 2017 at Ss. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish, Fort Madison with Reverend Joseph Phung as Celebrant. Burial will be at Everhart Cemetery, rural Donnellson. A memorial has been established for the Lustgarten Foundation for pancreatic cancer research, contributions may be made at the church or the Barr Memorial Chapel.
