Eileen Mildred Wiggenjost, 97, of West Point, Iowa passed away at 9:40 A.M. Sunday December 24, 2017 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born January 8, 1920 at Baring, Missouri the daughter of Joseph and Mary Fink Delaney. On June 28, 1947 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fort Madison she married Wilbert Theodore “Bert” Wiggenjost. He preceded her in death on March 15, 2014.

Survivors include two daughters: Martha (Chuck) Kulow of Oakville, Iowa and Joann (David) Plyman of Rochelle, Illinois. Two sons: Jerry (Barbara) Wiggenjost of Liberty, Missouri and Michael Wiggenjost of West Point, Iowa. One brother-in-law Virgil Fedler, one sister-in-law Helen Delaney. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bert and her siblings: William, Marie, Frances, Edna, Paul, Loretta, Claude, Virgil, Maurice, Raymond, Martha and Marjorie.

Eileen was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point, the Altar and Rosary Society of the Church, West Point American Legion Auxiliary, West Point Garden Club and the West Point Senior Citizens. Following high school she attended the former Northeast Missouri State University where she received her teaching degree. She taught school for five years in Missouri prior to moving to Iowa where she worked for Sheaffer Pen Company. Eileen enjoyed playing cards, reading, gardening, tending to her flowers and being outdoors. Most of all she enjoyed her family especially her grandchildren.

Friends may call after 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Schmitz Funeral Home in West Point where the family will meet with friends from 3:00-6:00 P.M. There will be a parish rosary recited at 3:30 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 6:00 P.M.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday December 28, 2017 at St Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point with Fr. Dennis Hoffman as Celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in West Point.

Memorials may be made to St Mary’s Church or to the West Point Library.
