Fort Madison boys slip at Fairfield Friday

FAIRFIELD - The Bloodhound boys basketball team snapped a three-game winning streak managing just 11 first half points in a 58-39 loss to Fairfield on the road Friday night.

The Trojans' junior Tristan Waugh and senior guard Dante Cingire each outscored the Hounds with 12 first half points apiece.

The Hounds didn't get on the board until two minutes left in the first period, managing a bucket each from sophomore Jayden Fedler and senior Kaleb Cresswell in the quarter. Fort Madison senior Treavor James-Kokjohn, who's second on the Southeast Conference in scoring at 17.8 points per game was held scoreless in the first half.

Fairfield raced out to 15-4 first quarter lead and things didn't get much better for the Hounds in the second period getting outscored 18-7.

Coming out after halftime, the Hounds got back to their style of play and back in the game with 10 points from James-Kokjohn, who led the Fort Madison with 13 points on the night. Sheymouhr Redd-Donald and Fedler also added buckets, while the Hound defense held Fairfield to eight points cutting into the Trojan lead 25-41.

But the Trojans went into protection mode in the fourth quarter forcing the Hounds to foul and Cingire, who led Fairfield with 21 points on the night went to the free throw line eight times, converting seven and added a 3-pointer to put the game away.

Fedler finished with 10 points for the Hounds and Cresswell added nine. Junior Logan Rashid, Redd-Donald and Brandon Keester eached added a two points for Fort Madison.

The Hounds fall to 6-4 on the season and travel to Albia for a Saturday game. Fort Madison then travels to Keokuk on Friday before returning home against Burlington on Jan. 16.
