ALBIA - Senior Taylor Shannan, who's been battling a groin injury all season, may be past the pain as she put up 22 points Saturday in a close 57-55 loss to Albia on the road.

The Lady Hounds also had two other players in double figures with senior Kamryn Bailey and sophomore guard Anna Kester each adding 11 points in game highs for all three this season.

At the outset it looked like a rout was underway as Albia took a commanding 12-2 lead with three minutes left in the first quarter, but Fort Madison got a 3-pointer and a bucket to cut the lead to 8 15-7 at the end of one.

The Bloodhounds went on a 17-11 second quarter run and actually had a one-point lead with less than a minute to go in the half. Albia outscored Fort Madison 5-2 in the last minute of the half to go into the lockerroom with a 2-point lead 26-24.

The two teams traded buckets throughout the third period and Albia held a 39-36 lead going into the final period.

Fort Madison had several chances to pull the game out going to the free throw line 16 times but only converted nine. They were down by 11 with just less than 3 minutes left in the game and then the Bloodhound shooters heated up closing the gap to 8 with two minutes left. Then a 6-1 run by the Hounds had them within striking distance but time would run out on Fort Madison.

Maddie Rashid scored five points in the loss, while Dalyn Wondra and Eleesha Estrada each scored two points for Fort Madison who falls to 0-11 on the year.

The Hounds travel to Keokuk on Friday night for a boys/girls varsity doubleheader.
