Holy Trinity boys find win at Cardinal

ELDON - Holy Trinity Catholic had five boys in double figures as they handed Cardinal of Eldon a 69-52 loss in southeast Iowa boys high school basketball action Friday night.

Junior Brant Holtkamp led the Crusaders with 18 points on the night, including 4 of 6 shooting from the 3-point arc in the first half.

The two team traded 3-pointers in the first minute and HTC found themselves down by five at the end of the first period as Cardinal went on a 20-4.

But HTC returned the favor in the second period holding Cardinal to just one point through the first three minutes of play, while putting up 12 of their own to take a 27-21 lead with five minutes remaining.

The Crusaders would put up 20 more in the next five minutes to take a 47-34 lead into the lockerroom.

Freshman Jake Eaves would lead HTC in the second half converting two 3-pointers en route to seven second half points, 10 total on the night. Sophomore Matt Hellige would add five points as Holy Trinity outscored Cardinal 12-6 in the third period.

Hellige finished with 13 points on the night, while sophomores Reed Fehseke and Quentin Schneider had 12 and 11 respectively. Blake Crabtree had five on the night to round out the Crusader scoring.

The Crusaders take on 9-3 Fort Madison tonight at the Hound Dome with start time approximately 7 p.m. The game is part of a four-game junior varsity/varsity girls and boys double header on Fort Madison's Cake Auction night. The Hounds have won six of their last seven games.
