HTC girls get win on the road at Cardinal

ELDON - Holy Trinity senior Brett Schneider led the Crusaders to their highest offensive output of the in an 80-41 win over Cardinal of Eldon Friday night in girls Southeast Iowa Superconference basketball action.

Schneider had 23 points, 21 of which came in the first half as Holy Trinity raced to a 23-5 first quarter lead and Cardinal never was able to get into the game.

Junior Emily Box had 14 points working the post for Holy Trinity and junior Eryn Anderson had 12 inside.

The Crusaders held a 51-18 lead going into the lockerroom and head coach Tony Johnson was able to get some players in off the bench in the second half as the game was well in hand.

At the end of third period HTC held a 40-point advantage. Sophomore Ashlyn Haas converted two 3-pointers in the second half and scored eight points on the night. Sophomore Avery Hopper and senior Samantha Hoenig each put in six points for HTC. Freshman Bailey Hellweg had four points, while junior Taylor Boeding and Claire Pothitakis each scored two. Ali Robu also scored a point to round out the Crusader scoring.

The Crusaders take on cross-town rival Fort Madison at the Hound Dome tonight in a junior varsity/varsity, girls/boys doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. It's Fort Madison High School's Cake Auction night and the boys game will start at approximately 7 p.m.
