Cynthia “Cindy” Marie Smith, 64, of Montrose, IA, died Saturday, January 20, 2018 at River Hills Village in Keokuk.

She was born on December 12, 1953 in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of Wendell Phillips and Irene Eck Smith.

Cindy graduated from Central Lee High School with the Class of 1972. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, IA and her Master’s Degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL.

She had been employed with the Marquette School District, Central Lee Schools and Keokuk Community Schools as a talented and gifted teacher for elementary and middle school students.

She was a member of the First Lutheran church in Keokuk. She was also a member of PEO, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Cindy enjoyed knitting, shopping, cooking and working in her flower gardens. She also enjoyed researching genealogy and was very proud of her Swedish heritage. Cindy loved to take road trips and had traveled to all fifty states.

She is survived by her mother, Irene Smith of Montrose, two first cousins, Sandy Storment (Dick) and Cathye Wehr all of Oregon, and many other cousins, friends acquaintances and students.

She was preceded in death by her father and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church in Keokuk with Reverend Rodney Underwood officiating. Burial will be in the Montrose Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 1 p.m., Tuesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with the family meeting with friends from 6 – 8 p.m.
