Janet Elaine Cunningham, 89, of Keokuk, IA died Monday, January 29, 2018 at River Hills Village in Keokuk.

She was born February 5, 1928 in Keokuk the daughter of William and Justine Verberg Hornung. On November 10, 1950 she was united in marriage to Carroll Cunningham. He preceded her in death.

Janet graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1946.

She had been employed at Sheller Globe in Keokuk, Ogilvie Mills and later at Dr. Kantamini’s office also in Keokuk.

Janet was a member of New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk. She volunteered at Keokuk Area Hospital for many years and was also a member of their auxiliary. She had served as secretary and treasurer for AARP.

Janet enjoyed knitting, reading James Patterson books and working crossword puzzles. Her faith was an active part of her life. She loved her church and church family and had participated in many Bible studies through the years. Janet adored her grandchildren and cherished the time she spent with them.

She is survived by three sons, Carroll Cunningham, Jr. (Christina Smeltser) of Wayland, MO, Craig Cunningham (Ginger) of Warsaw, IL and Curtis Cunningham (Diane) of Montrose, IA, ten grandchildren, Courtney Tallman, Corby, Janine, Christopher, Cody, Cheyenne, Chelby, Caitlyn Cunningham, Rickilynn Bryant and Josi Bryant, six great-grandchildren and one brother, Donald Hornung of Keokuk.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Corby Todd Cunningham, one sister, Wilma Magerkurth and one brother, Robert Hornung.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday at the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk with Pastor Dawn Ferris officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Testament Christian Church.
