FORT MADISON - Seniors Brett Schnieder and Madison Mohrfeld each scored in double figures in Holy Trinity's win over New London Thursday in girls Southeast Iowa Superconference basketball action.

Schneider poured in 15 and Mohrfeld scored 13 on Senior Night, but junior Emily Box scored 24 inside the paint to lead all scorers.

Schneider is still nursing a sore ankle and got up gingerly in the second quarter, but finished the game. Holy Trinity was also dealing with the absence of sophomore Ashlynn Haas and junior Eryn Anderson, who were in street clothes on the bench. Anderson broke her nose in Tuesday night's game with Wapello.

The game started slowly with seven turnovers combined by both teams and the scored tied at 4-4 with just over four minutes left in the opening period.

But that's where any sense of the game ended as the Crusaders shifted into a three-quarter press and shut out the Tigers until halfway through the third period when Alexa Wagner and Kara Krieger scored back to back and made it a 52-8 game with a running clock.

Box had scored all her points by then and head coach Tony Johnson pulled off the press and started working in the bench.

Mohrfeld and Schneider went to work scoring 14 of HTC's final 17 points, which was culminated in a 3-pointer from freshman Bailey Hellweg from the left side to set the margin at 68-17.

Johnson said the three seniors all played well considering the injuries HTC is facing.

"Actually, all three played very well tonight. Madison really did a nice job inside tonight and she did Tuesday in Wapello as well when Eryn went out," he said. "Hopefully, we'll get everyone back for Notre Dame."

The Crusaders open regional action on Thursday at home against Burlington Notre Dame. They travel to Wapello on Friday as part of the girls Southeast Iowa Superconference Shootout.

Johnson said the girls have some things to work on before regionals.

"The way I look at it, everyone's 0-0. You win or go home and that's the way we're going to enter the post-season," he said after Thursday's win. "We need to work on our offense. I thought we forced some things tonight, and we've got some other things to clean up."

Taylor Boeding had six for the Crusaders, while Avery Hopper had four, and Sam Hoenig and Hellwig each had 3-pointers for HTC.

The Crusaders stand at 9-11 on the season going into Friday's shootout.
