Former ISP warden Ludwick dies after battle with cancer

FORT MADISON – Retired Warden Ludwick passed away Wednesday night surrounded by friends and family at his home in Alma Michigan.

Ludwick became Warden in June of 2010 and held the reigns of the Iowa State Penitentiary until January of 2017 when he retired. He made many friends and he will be missed by his Iowa family.

He was diagnosed with Melanoma over a decade ago and fought his illness bravely with a positive attitude and simply the will to beat his ailments. He stayed active enjoying golf and going for trips with his favorite pup- Grace.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Michigan on February 16th. A local celebration will also be held. More information will be shared as soon as it becomes available.

Ludwick ushered in the brand new state-of-the-art ISP facility on 330th Avenue and the transferring of the offenders to the new site, as well as overseeing cultural and internal modernization of the maximum security facility.

He retired just over one year ago after overseeing operations at the maximum security prison for 6.5 years and more than 40 years in the Iowa and Michigan prison systems.
