FORT MADISON - About 60 Lee County residents plowed through a late afternoon snow to decide who would serve on platform committees and central committee at Monday night's mid-term caucuses,.

The Lee County Republicans met at the Comfort Inn and Suites on the west end of town with about 20 people.

One of the members of the caucus was Dylan Keller, a 25-year-old from Donnellson who's currently on the state GOP payroll as the senate majority fund finance director. Keller was in Lee County to caucus with his home precinct in hopes of getting back to the state convention floor.

"It's the first part of a long process to get to state convention," Keller said. "The first step is at the precinct level to get to county and from there work hard and hopefully get to the district and state convention floor where we can hopefully secure Reynolds nomination for the GOP the first time and then secure Adam Gregg as her LG from the floor. So that's my goal here."

The Lee County Democrats met at the Fort Madison High School's multi-purpose room where close to 40 registered Democrats also selected county and platform delegates for the March 10 county convention.

Outgoing county Democratic chair Rick Larkin read a letter from Iowa Democratic Chair Tony Price indicating it was a critical time for Democrats to take action

"We have our work cut out for us this year: taking back the Iowa House and Senate, electing four Democrats to Congress, electing strong Democrats to all offices - from the courthouse to the statehouse and - of course - putting a Democrat back in the Governor's office," Pryce wrote.
