FORT MADISON - The Lady Hounds wrapped up their regular season Friday night unceremoniously with a 67-23 loss at the hands of Southeast Conference front-runner Fairfield.

But seniors Taylor Shannon, Katie Larson and Kamryn Bailey received a ceremony after the game where they were honored along with other senior FMHS athletes for the final season playing hoops with the Hounds.

The tone was set quickly for Fort Madison as Fairfield rushed out to 16-2 first quarter lead led by Shaylin Drish's eight points. Fort Madison hung with the Trojans in the second quarter putting up 10 points to tie Fairfield in the period and going into the lockerroom down 14-28.

Freshman Maddie Rashid put up five in the period, including a 3-pointer to lead Fort Madison. Shannon and Braxtyn McGhghy had buckets in the quarter. Sophomore Anna Kester added a free throw.

But the momentum quickly faded in the second half when the Bloodhounds would only manage nine total points, five from Kester. The Trojans implemented a 3/4 court zone press and forced the Hounds in turnovers and an up-tempo game. Fairfield seemed to go just about perfect in the third period scoring 29 to put the game out of reach.

Trojan senior Amber Buch went for 17 in the second half alone and tied Drish for game-high scoring honors with 23. Fairfield finished the regular season 17-4 and gets a bye in the first round of next week's regionals, which begin on Wednesday. The Hound will face Washington in Washington at 7 p.m, with the winner facing 4th-ranked North Scott in Eldridge on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Kester finished with six points to lead FMHS. Rashid was right behind with five, while Sara Bernhart and Shannon each added four. Bailey and McGhghy each had two for Fort Madison (1-20).
