Houston, Martinez elected to FMHS Athletic Hall of Fame

Victor Martinez: Martinez claimed Southeast 7 Conference titles in 1991 at 112 lbs, and then again in 1993 and 1994 at 125 lbs, being named to the All-Hawkeye wrestling team both years. Martinez won just 18 matches in 1993, but advanced all the way to the state championship match at 125 lbs, ending with a 2nd place finish. In 1994, he went 25-4 during the season leading up to his state championship at 125 lbs, being named wrestler of the year by the Burlington Hawkeye. Accepting on his behalf is his father, Dave and LInda Martinez. The plaque is being presented by Fort Madison wrestling coaches Ryan Smith and Derek Doherty.

Amanda Houston set seven track meet records during her standout high school career in the shot put. She was a two-time State 3A champion in 2011 and 2012, two-time district 3A champion in 2010 and 2011, a four-time Drake Relays qualifier with a 5th place finish in 2011 and a 3rd place finish in 2012, and was a four-time Southeast 7 Conference champion from 2009-12. In her best-ever senior season of 2012, she was 2nd in district, 3A state indoor champion, 3A state outdoor, and a 1st place finish at the senior all-star tristate meet with a throw of 44’ 11.5”, her personal best. She also owns the FMHS record with a state sanctioned throw of 42’ 9”. Amanda’s plaque is being presented to her by her throws coach during that time, Mr. Todd McGhghy, right and Head Track Coach Brian Mendez.

The Pen City Current Congratulations both Victor and Amanda, on their inductions into the FMHS Hall of Fame.
