WASHBURN

David E. Washburn, Sr., 69, of Montrose, Iowa passed away at 4:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at his home in Montrose.

Born August 13, 1948 in Fort Madison, Iowa the son of Waldo E. and Eloyce (Carrell) Washburn. On April 26, 1969 he married Danita Metzinger at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Montrose, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife: Danita of Montrose; two sons: David Washburn, Jr. of Rock Springs, Wyoming and Darrin (Sabrina) Washburn of Denham Springs, Louisiana; one daughter Dana (Mark) Lyter of Lowden, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Nick Washburn, Mason and Bailee Washburn, Cain, Seth, RaeAnne and Jackson Lyter.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

David was a 1966 graduate of Central Lee High School. He retired in 1999 from Chevron with thirty years of service as an offshore/onshore superintendent. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Montrose, a lifetime member of the ATA and NRA, a member of the Pastime Club and Tri-State Gun Club. Trapshooting was a big part of his life. David’s children and grandchildren were the light of his life. Everyone that David loved had no doubt of his love for them.

Friends may call after 12:00 noon Friday, February 23, 2018 at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson where the family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A parish rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Montrose with Father Mark Spring as celebrant.

Burial will be at a later date at the Montrose Cemetery.

Memorials have been established in his memory to the Tri-State Gun Club or St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
