Matthew John Washburn, 40, of Keokuk, IA, died unexpectedly Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the Genesis Hospital in Davenport, IA.

He was born on June 3, 1977 in Keokuk, IA, the son of John and Karen Wright Washburn.

He was currently employed with First Call Bail Bonds of Eastern Iowa.

Matthew loved to hunt. He trained his own hunting dogs and was working on making a long bow for bow hunting. He also enjoyed fishing, target shooting and working on cars. His “baby”, a 1985 Mustang, was a continual work in progress. Martial arts was another interest of Matthews, as well as video games.

He is survived by his companion Mindy Martin and her children Jerod and Faith Martin all of Keokuk, his mother and step-father, Karen and Roger Wetzel of Sutter, Il, two brothers, Douglas Washburn of Fort Dodge, and James Washburn of Keokuk, two sisters, Sarah Wetzel of Hamilton, IL and Alyssa Wetzel of Elkridge, MA, his grandmother, Jewell Wright of Keokuk, nieces and nephews, Gabrielle Hamelton, Jax Washburn, Kai Washburn, Olivia Mobley and Andrew Shields, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, Bill Wright, Carl and Catherine Washburn, several aunts and uncles and his faithful dog, Blush.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday at the First Christian Church in Keokuk with Pastor David Turner officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.

Visitation will be held after 1 p.m., Friday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with the family meeting with friends from 6 – 8 p.m.

A memorial has been established.
