FMHS girls compete at Washington Indoor

MT. VERNON - Senior Sierra Howardson led a young group at the Fort Madison girls track team at the Washington Indoor meet Thursday at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon.

Howardson finished in 10th place in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:25.93, :23 off the pace set by Cedar Rapids Washinton's Reagon Gorman. Howardson also ran the first leg of the girls 4x800-meter run which took 13th place. Freshman Lauren King ran the second leg followed by seniors Claire Mendez and Kamryn Bailey. The team finished with a mark of 11:05.14

Other place finishers for the Bloodhounds included senior Leigh Johnson with a throw of 30.05 in the shotput good enough for 24th out of 68. Freshman Revna Lampe took 22nd in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 11.20. Senior Elizabeth Miller finished 45th at 12.59.

Freshman Nadia Boeding ran the 60-meter dash in 9.22 good enough for 39th place, while Madelyn Swigart finished at 9.71 for 47th place. Swigart also took 38th in the 400-meter dasy at 1:18.87. Freshman Kylie Cashman and sophomore Anna Kester finished the girls 200-meter dash in 38th and 39th just a second apart at 31.45 and 31.46.

Miller wrapped up the 1500-meter dash at 6:05.59 for 28th place.

The girls distance medley consisting of Bailey, freshman Taylor Barnes, Cashman, and freshman Lauren King, took 20th place with a mark of 5:15.89, while the 4x400 team of Mendez, Boeding, Barnes and Kester took 18th place at 4:52.15.

The girls travel to Ames Monday for an indoor meet at Iowa State University.
