Barnes throws shot 50' again; takes 3rd at ISU meet

AMES - Fort Madison High School's Elijah Barnes continues to break the 50' mark in his final year on the Bloodhound Track and Field team.

Barnes threw the shot for 50' 1/2" on Tuesday afternoon at Iowa State University as the Hounds continue their indoor track season. Barnes' throw was good enough for 3rd place at the meet. Senior Heath Hoenig threw 34' 11.5".

HTC sophomore Matt Hellige, who runs for FMHS ran the 3,200 meter run at 10:46.8, while Dominic Frantz and Harley Pennamon both ran in the 60-meter dash. Pennamon finished at 8.29 and Frantz finished at 8.76.

The 4x800 team of Dayne Cordray, Quentin Schneider (HTC), Garrett Hannum (HTC) and Miquel Trejo finished the 4x800 at 9:33.8. A 1,600-meter medley team consisting of Hannum, Pennamon, Schneider and Cordray finished at 4:14.46.

Both the girls and boys varsity track teams will travel to the Pella for the Pekin Indoor meet on Thursday at Central College.
