Cathy Anne Seltzer, 65 of Keokuk died Monday, March 26, 2018 at Lexington Square in Keokuk after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born October 10, 1952 at Parks Air Force Base in Pleasanton, CA, the daughter of Martin and Betty Manning Schrapf. She had lived in several places growing up while her father served in the Air Force. Cathy’s family later settled in Carthage, IL, where she attended Carthage schools from grades 8-12. After graduating from Carthage High School with the Class of 1970, she attended Robert Morris College in Carthage, IL.

On December 8, 1979, Cathy was united in marriage to Robert Seltzer in Keokuk. He survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Robert and Terina Seltzer of Christiansburg, VA and Eric Seltzer of Keokuk, her grandchildren, Lily Seltzer and Hunter Tibbits and twins on the way this summer, one brother, Darrell (Jessica) Schrapf of Hamilton, IL, one sister, Sherry (Hurshel) Symmonds of Hamilton, IL, several special nieces and nephews, Zack, Logan, Tyler, Nathan, Savannah, Allison and Emilee Schrapf, Kori Savage, Joey Savoie, and Locklon Akers, her father-in-law, Harold (Sharon) Seltzer of Montrose, IA, one sister-in-law, Angela Welch of Keokuk, one brother-in-law, Harold Seltzer of Keokuk and her good friend Terri Jones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Johnny Schrapf in infancy and her mother-in-law, Audrey Seltzer.

Cathy had been employed at Memorial Hospital in Carthage as a nurse and then worked at Mediacom in Keokuk for the past thirty-five years.

She was a reluctant Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed trying her luck at the casino playing penny slots. Cathy was very devoted to her family and enjoyed her dog, Misty. She also enjoyed her job, reading, camping and traveling.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, IL.

Visitation will be held after 1 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home with family meeting with friends from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Russell and Anne Gerdin American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Iowa City, IA.
