BY PCC STAFF

FORT MADISON - Fort Madison Community Hospital Home Health & Hospice will be holding training for Hospice Volunteers to join their newly formed care team. Individuals who are interested in working with hospice patients are encouraged to attend the training. The nine hour training program will be offered over three days, May 1st, 3rd and 7th. All sessions will be held from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. in the Canella Conference Room in the Business Center at FMCH.

Every FMCH Hospice volunteer must complete this free and comprehensive training before being assigned a volunteer job. The training will cover hospice philosophy, caring for the terminally ill, grief and loss education, health and safety precautions and working with family members.

Hospice volunteers are part of the hospice care team, filling the gap between loved ones and the professional care givers. There are many opportunities to make a difference, creating a schedule that works for you and the patients you care for; filling a role you feel comfortable including patient care, personal care, bereavement duties, spiritual care and more. Strong communication skills, a calming presence and sincere compassion are all very important skills necessary to be a successful hospice volunteer. Volunteers play a vital and necessary role in hospice care, providing a unique caring perspective.

Registration is required by April 20th, 2018 and can be completed online at www.fmchosp.com/careers. For more information or to register for the training program, contact Debbie Green, Director of FMCH Home Health & Hospice at (319) 376-2721. The FMCH Hospice program is funded by the FMCH Foundation.
