FMHS gets five firsts at MP Co-Ed

MT. PLEASANT - FMHS senior Elijah Barnes took home another first place in the shotput on Thursday night, while the FMHS girls Distance Medley team also captured a first-place finish at the Mt. Pleasant Co-Ed meet at Maple Leaf Stadium.

Barnes, who's captured several first-place finishes in the indoor meets, edged out West Burlington-Notre Dame's Landon Greer by two inches with a 46'-6" throw. Barnes also took 3rd in the discus with a throw of 130'-5".

Two freshmen, Nadia Boeding and Taylor Barnes, joined seniors Sierra Howardson and Brett Schneider in running away with the distance medley at 4:49.27, a full eight seconds ahead of the pack.

FMHS senior Caleb Gehle took first in the 401-meter wheelchair dash - 2:24.17, the 201-meter wheelchair dash at 1:04.97, and the 101-meter wheelchair dash at 36.66.

The meet wasn't team scored.

Other top finishes for the Hounds included the girls 800 sprint medley team of Olivia Williams, Boeding, senior Kamryn Bailey, and Schneider with a mark of 2:02.53, ten seconds off the pace, good enough for 5th place.

Senior Claire Mendez took 6th in the 3000-meter run at 12:16.36 and 8th in the 1500, while Matt Hellige (HTC) captured fourth place in the boys 3200-meter run at 10:32.99.

Quentin Schneider took 3rd place in the boys 400-meter dash with a time of 54.92, just two seconds off the pace of Mid-Prairie's Cary Schaefer. He also finished 5th in the 400-meter hurdles. Hannum took 5th in the 400-meter dash at 56.96. Sophomore Matthew Meierotto took 9th in the 400 hurdles.

The boys 4x800-meter relay team of senior Aaron Steffensmeier, freshman Garrett Hannum (HTC), sophomore Quentin Schneider (HTC), and Dayne Cordray took 5th with a mark of 8:50.01, 30-seconds off the pace.

The girls 4x800-meter relay team of Barnes, senior Elizabeth Miller, Boeding, and Bailey took 8th place, while the all-freshmen 4x100-meter shuttle hurdle relay team of Reyna Lampe, Lauren King, Maddie Swigart, and Reagan Munson took 7th place. The girls 4x200-meter relay team of sophomore Anna Kester, freshman Kylie Cashman, Barnes, and Munson finished in 8th place with a time of 2:06.89.

The girls 4x100-meter relay team of Schneider, junior Olivia Williams, Lampe, and Boeding took 7th at 57.45 and the 4x400 team of Cashman, Barnes, Bailey, and Howardson was 7th at 4:58.09.

Hannum, Steffensmeier, Schneider, and Cordray took 10th in the boys 4x400 relay at 4:43.90.

Brett Schneider captured 7th place in the girls 800-meter run, and King took 10th, while Lampe took 9th in the girls 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.65. Lampe also finished in 4th place in the girls 400-meter hurdles.

Steffensmeier finished in 7th place in the boys 800-meter run, Cordray finished at 10th at 2:16.65. Senior Alex Gully took 6th place in the boys 200-meter dash at 24.74.

Cashman took 7th in the girls long jump with a 14'-01.75 leap, while Leigh Johnson finished 10th in the girls discus at 76'-9". Lampe was 9th best in the 100-meter hurdles at 18.65.
