FORT MADISON - State and district Kiwanis officials were on hand Monday night to honor the Fort Madison Kiwanis Club in celebrating it's 50th Anniversary at the Elks Club.

The Illinois-Eastern Iowa District Governor Terry Cunafare, along with Governor Assistant South Charles Smith and District 18 Lt. Governor Tim Olson were on hand to commemorate the event. Fort Madison President Greg Smith introduced the dignitaries and then Joe Bowen, the last original charter member from 1968 spoke about the passion of Kiwanians to help serve the children of the world.

He also reminisced about how the local Kiwanis club came to be and the history of fundraising, while sprinkling in some humorous stories of local antics surrounding peanut sales and circus tickets.
