Dear, Mendez win inaugural GloCrazy 5K

FORT MADISON – Miles Dear had the fastest time at the 1st Annual Glo 5K Crazy for Education run held Saturday at the Baxter Sports Complex. Dear finished the run at 19:47.06, just edging Will Gager, both running in the 15 & under division. The top six place finishers overall were each from the 15 & Under division.

Isabella Boeding won the female 15 & under run with a time of 20:03.32

The event featured illuminated lights along the 5K path that included the PORT 1 and 2 trails, the skatepark at Ivanho Park, Bluff Road and 48th Street. All runners received glow-in-the-dark necklaces and wristband, and an illuminated stick man was reportedly seen running through the masses. The event was organized by the Fort Madison service clubs including Kiwanis, Key Club, Lions Club and Rotary with proceeds going to the Elliott Test Kitchen programs.

The fastest female was Claire Mendez with a 19:57.12 time to win the 16-25 women’s division and the 16-25 division outright finishing 8th overall in the race. Sammy Myers won in the boys 16-25 division with a time of 25:47.32

In the 26-35 division, Wade and Lindsay Cornick took top honors with Wade finishing at 19:56.37 and Lindsay taking the women’s division at 20:00.95. Chris Hutson won the men’s 36-44 group with a time of 19:58.19 and Alisa Kindig captured the women’s medal with a mark of 22:17.51.

In the 45 and older division, Don Myers won in the men’s grouping with a time of 22:51.65, while Peterson took the women’s division at 24:00.01.

All the top finishers received medals.
