Dial M cast set at OFP

FORT MADISON - The Old Fort Players have announced the cast for their upcoming spring production of “Dial ‘M’ for Murder” written by Fredrick Knott. Dial M for Murder is a melodrama that had a very successful run on Broadway several years ago. The action will open at the theater in downtown Fort Madison on May 4, 2018 and run for 5 shows.

Dial M for Murder is the story of Tony Wendice who married his wife Margot for her money. When he tires of being married he decides to kill her for the same reason, her money!

He figures the way to do this is to blackmail a scoundrel friend of his into doing the deed for him for a price. This is fine and dandy until the scoundrel comes up dead, so he decides to twist the story and frame his wife for the murder. This would have worked out okay if it was not for a Scotland Yard inspector who with the help of a young man who has eyes for Margot. They figure out the truth and convince the killer to confess.

Margot is portrayed by Dorothy Schulte who has appeared in previous OFP productions and is a past board member. Tony is played by Jim Cole who is no stranger to the local theater and has played opposite Schulte in “If the Shoe Fits” which was nominated for Iowa Community Theater Association annual award show a few years back. Max is played by current OFP Vice President Ty Clute who has appeared in three previous shows, ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’, ‘Barefoot in the Park’ and directed the recent baseball classic ‘Bleacher Bums’. Lesgate who is hired to take care of Margot, is played by newcomer Jan Jude. The Scotland Yard inspector is portrayed by another newcomer to OFP Joe Thurman. Director for the action on stage is Michelle Slater who is a current OFP board member and has been involved with the local theater group since she was a young girl. Stage Manager is Kayla Schleidt who has appeared in several productions and covered off stage jobs several times.

The production will open on May 4th at 7:30 PM and again on May 5th at 7:30 PM. The following weekend will have performances on Friday, Saturday night at 7:30 and on Sunday at 2 PM, May 11, 12, and 13, 2018.
