Historical society readies for train show, swap meet

FORT MADISON - The 6th annual Fort Madison Train Show and Swap Meet, scheduled for April 20-21 at the Historic AT&SF and CB&Q depots in the North Lee County Historical Society Museum Complex and Riverview Park Pavilion will kick off Thursday, April 19 at 6 p. m. with a social to register and greet early arrivals.

Early registrations received for the event show visitors from Kansas, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri as well as Iowa train enthusiasts, according to NLCHS President, Andy Andrews.

The Swap Meet opens in Riverview Park Pavilion on Friday at 9 a.m. and Saturday at 8 a.m. with a daily admission of $3 and closes at 4 p.m. each day. Vendors of railroad memorabilia, model railroad equipment, railroad art and other railroad related items will be set up. Some vendors just set up Friday, some just Saturday and many both days, according to Sean Wright, chairman.

The mini-meet programs on railroad history, modeling and rules will be conducted at the CB&Q depot starting at 1 p.m. Saturday until 4 p.m. with several speakers scheduled.

A picnic for vendors and full registered guests will be held at 5 p.m. Friday evening for fully registered guests. The AT&SF 2913 steam locomotive in Riverview Park and the AT&SF caboose 999235 will also be open for visitors.

Full registration for all the events, programs, swap-meet and picnic planned this weekend is $15 and may be paid at the door.
