Hound boys win in sudden victory session

FORT MADISON - The Fort Madison Bloodhound boys soccer team edged Keokuk in a sudden victory session Tuesday night, 4-3.

Hound goalie Carson Donaldson was able to block a Keokuk penalty kick in the extra session to help seal the win. The Hounds outscored the Chiefs 3-2 in the penalty kick session after being tied 3-3 at the end of regulation.

The Hounds' Brody Rung scored the first goal for Fort Madison at the 27:30 mark of the first half on an assist by Chris Kistner. Rung got free again at the 34:40 mark of the first half on a pass by Miguel Trejo. The Hounds went up 3-0 when Austin Sexton took a ball from Kistner and found the back of the net with just 3:30 left in the first half.

Keokuk responded with their first goal of the night 30 seconds later, making the score 3-1 at the half.

The Chiefs scored again just 2:30 into the second half when a ball got by Donaldson on a penalty kick. At the 17:00 minute mark Keokuk tied up the game and neither team scored again in regulation, or the two 10-minute OT sessions, forcing the sudden victory penalty kick sequence.

Tristan Kirk and Jamin Klose were able to pop shots past Donaldson during the session, but the Hounds AJ Nolting, Sexton and Kelly Russell all scored on kicks for Fort Madison. Donaldson had four saves for FMHS.

The Hounds improve to 2-3 (1-1 in the Southeast Conference) and travel to Washington on Friday for a conference game.

In the junior varsity game, Will Larson, Javier Trejo and Kelly Russell all had goals. Anthony Barnes, Alex Steffensmeier and Renzo Eid each had assists as Fort Madison won 3-0. Chance Decker had four saves on the night.
