Thornton cards 44 in HTC loss

FORT MADISON - The Holy Trinity Catholic boys golf team fell to Van Buren in a dual meet on Thursday at Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course in Fort Madison.
Cole Thornton shot an 8-over par 44 to lead the Crusaders in the 9-hole meet.
Jonah Heckenberg took medal honors with a 41 for the Van Buren, who finished with a 174, to HTCs 188.
Scoring for the Crusaders in addition to Thornton's 44 was Collin Thornton with a 46, Kyle Bredemeyer shot a 48 and Josh Barr carded a 50. Van Buren got 44s from Austin Giberson and Luke Baker and a 45 from Jacob Plecker to win the meet.
Mason Holvoet shot a 51, Ali Robu shot a 57 in the girls portion of the meet for HTC, and Conrad Hellman fired a 63 to round out the scoring for HTC.
The team travels to Flint Hills in Burlington for a Monday matchup with Burlington Notre Dame.
