FMHS boys win on the road at Fairfield

FAIRFIELD - The Fort Madison boys tennis team won their second match in two days and are now over .500 for the season at 4-3 with a 5-4 win over Fairfield on the road Tuesday night.

The two teams split the singles competition with three wins each, highlighted by Sam Avery's win over Gannon Courtright 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 at No. 1 singles. The Hounds also got wins from Jason and Vasin Thurman at Nos. 3 and 5 singles. Jason Thurman downed Dante Cingiri 6-1, 4-6, 10-2 at No. 3 and Vasin Thurman downed AJ Greiner 6-3, 7-5 at No. 5.

Fairfield got wins from Logan Williams over FMHS's Austin Krieger at No. 2 singles 6-1, 3-6, 10-3, Jarod Willmon downed Blake Feuerhammer 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4 singles, and Will Sheppard defeated Gage Hind at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-2.

The Hounds were able to get the win in doubles action with Avery and Krueger, who had to go to a tiebreaker to beat Courtright and Williams 6-4, 5-7 (10-7 tiebreaker). Thurman and Thurman got back to their winning ways at No. 2 doubles with a 6-1, 6-4 win. Hind and Feuerhammer lost to Greiner and Sheppard 1-6, 6-3 (6-10 tiebreaker).

The Hounds test their record Thursday with a match against Keokuk at home.

In junior varsity action, Bryce Workman lost two singles matches 6-2 and 6-4.
