FORT MADISON - Fort Madison Lincoln Elementary students and staff were put on lockdown this morning after a domestic incident in the neighborhood was reported by Fort Madison police. The lockdown has been lifted. Superintendent Erin Slater issued the following statement this morning via Powerschool:
Good Morning.
All students and staff are safe on all school grounds today. At approximately7:55AM, Lincoln School was made aware of a neighborhood disturbance about two blocks from the school building. A suspect was in an argument in his home with a gun and proceeded to leave the home.
Members of the threat assessment team contacted by our Fort Madison Police Department School Resource Officer at that time, and all students at Lincoln School were immediately escorted into the building, into their classrooms with their teacher, and all doors were immediately locked.
The Fort Madison Police Department apprehended the suspect approximately two minutes after the incident occurred, and the lockdown was then lifted.
Students and staff responded efficiently and did great job iduring the lockdown. Once again, all students and staff are safe at Lincoln School today.
