Hellige earns two firsts at Mepo. Invite

MEDIAPOLIS - The Fort Madison boys track team took fourth place at the Mediapolis Invitational on Tuesday evening, but several Hounds brought home titles.

The Bloodhounds captured 113 points. Mediapolis won the meet with 165 total points.

Sophomore Matthew Hellige took first in the 1600 and 3200-meter runs with times of 4:55.22 and 10:37.11. He also had a 3rd place finish for FMHS in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:14.70.

Fellow HTC sophomore Quentin Schneider brought home a first-place in the 400-meter hurdles and Elijah Barnes got past the 51' mark with his first-place shot put at 51'-3". Barnes earned 2nd in the discus with a throw of 131'-2.5".

Senior Caleb Gehle, fresh off competing in a national event in Indiana, took first places in the 101, 201 and 401-wheelchair races and the wheelchair shot put with a throw of 17'-4".

The boys distance medley relay team also captured 1st place with a time of 3:55.65, a full 8.4 seconds ahead of the competition.

Discus Throw - Elijah Barnes 131'-2.5" (2nd), Heath Hoenig 106'-4" (7th)

Shot Put - Elijah Barnes 51'-3" (1st), Alec Craft 37'-0" (9th)

Wheelchair Shot Put - Caleb Gehle 17'-4" (1st)

800 Sprint Medley - FMHS 1:48.10 (4th)
