FM falls to Mt. Pleasant in boys tennis

MT. PLEASANT - The Fort Madison boys tennis team fell in a tight match that came down to the No. 3 doubles match.

Blake Feuerhammer and Gage Hind, who play at Nos. 4 and 6 singles, teamed up at No. 3 doubles against Mt. Pleasant's Elijah Plooster and Donny Arledge. The set wound up in an 8-8 tie, but the Plooster and Arledge duo took the win with a 7-2 tiebreaker, which gave the Panthers a 5-4 win on the night.

The Panthers, with home field advantage, elected to play first-to-eight matches in lieu of the regular two-set match play,

At No. 1 singles, the Hounds' Sam Avery fell 2-8 to Ethan Weber. Corbin Broeker downed Austin Krueger 8-3 at No. 2. Jason Thurman, who's 7-2 as a freshman at No. 3 singles downed Jaxon Hoyle 8-3. Plooster beat Feuerhammer 8-6. The Hounds got their 2nd win of the day when Vasin Thurman beat Jack Schimmelpfinnig at No. 5 and then David Nguyen took out Gage Hind 8-4.

In the Nos. 1 and 2 doubles matches, Avery and Krueger beat Broeker and Hoyle 8-3, but Weber and Schimmelpfinnig took the No. 2 doubles from the Thurmans 8-4.

In junior varsity action, Bryce Workman fell 3-8 and 5-8 in singles action.

The Hounds are 5-4 and are off until Thursday when they host Macomb, after playing in four meets this week due to the late winter cancellations.
