Steven James Gates, 66 of Keokuk, IA died Monday, April 23, 2018 at UnityPoint Health-Keokuk.

He was born December 2, 1951 in Keokuk, IA the son of James and Ruth Donnelly Gates. He was united in marriage to Carol Hiatt on September 22, 1975 in Midland, TX. She survives.

Other survivors include one brother, Randy Davison (Christy) of OK, one sister, Dianna Büsst of CA, one uncle, Bob Wilsey of Keokuk, one aunt, Ruth Marie Donnelly of OK, several cousins, nieces and nephews and great- nieces and great- nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Steven graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1970.

In his younger years, Steven had been employed by Morse Chain in Keokuk. Steven began his career at Griffin Wheel in Keokuk, in 1979, until his retirement in 1999.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Keokuk, the Alpha Sunday School Class, NRA, the Montrose Gun Club and Habitat for Humanity.

Steven was an avid history buff and especially enjoyed Biblical archeology. He liked to spend his free time target shooting and playing pool. Most of all, Steven loved a good cup of coffee.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the First Christian Church in Keokuk, with Pastor David Turner officiating.

Memorials may be made to God’s Way Christian Center, Habitat for Humanity and the Keokuk Public Library.
