Rung scores three in Hounds loss to Washington

FORT MADISON - Junior Brody Rung threw a hat trick at Washington Monday in boys high school soccer action at the Baxter Sports Complex, but the Hounds couldn't hold on for the win as the Demons left town with a 6-3 win.

Rung scored on an assist by senior David Goebel just nine minutes into the first half, but the Demons countered 30 seconds later to tie it up. Washington would put three more goals up before intermission for a 4-1 lead.

Rung took the second half kick down and punched it in just 45 seconds into the final period to make it a 2-4 game. The Demons came back with a netter at 5:30 before Rung put his third shot into the net at the 8-minute mark to keep it within two at 5-3. Washington scored again at 22:15 to set the final score.

Junior Javier Trejo had nine saves in the match and AJ Nolting added a shot on goal for Fort Madison.

The Hounds falls to 3-8 overall and 2-3 in the conference and travel to Fairfield on Thursday.

In the junior varsity contest, the Bloodhounds fell 1-0 with Chance Decker making five saves in the game.
