YMCAs Murder in Margaritaland just around the corner

FORT MADISON – The Fort Madison Family YMCA will be hosting a Murder Mystery party on Friday, May 18 at 7pm at the Comfort Inn & Suites event center at the corner of Highway 61 and Highway 2 in Fort Madison. The public is invited to attend with tickets for sale at the Fort Madison Family YMCA at 220 26th Street, Fort Madison until the day of the event for $40 per person. Tickets purchased at the door will be $50 per person. All proceeds from the evening will benefit the Fort Madison Family YMCA facility fund, as the local YMCA is a 501c3 organization.

Ryan Wilson, Executive Director at the Fort Madison Family YMCA stated, “Our Board President, Jody Schulte, presented the idea to have a major fundraiser benefitting the local YMCA early in the year. Most Y’s throughout the state have a major event and our board felt that the opportunity was right to hold a unique event to the area. We are excited to put on the Murder Mystery party and we feel that everyone that attends will enjoy the evening.”

For those that have never attended such an event the evening will unfold as follows. As individuals purchase tickets they are asked if they would like a ‘starring role’ in the murder mystery. If they would like such a role, the YMCA obtains contact information so they can assign individuals to one of the twenty key roles for the murder. All other attendees will be given unique names that go along with the theme and objectives to help them solve the mystery. These individuals can be as involved as they would like in the murder mystery or they can sit back and watch the murder unfold. The murder will take place, evidence shared, and additional clues given to help solve the mystery of who committed the crime. After the killer is announced dance music will follow for those that want to stay and enjoy the rest of the evening. Throughout the evening, heavy appetizers will be served from Buffalo61 Catering and dessert from Kelly’s Cakes. Drinks will be available for purchase.

Committee members that assisted in coordinating all details of the Murder Mystery are Ryan Wilson, Jody Schulte, Jen Fett, Julie Hohl, Liz Woodbury, Carrie Green, and Brandi Koering.

Premier sponsors for the Fort Madison Family YMCA Murder in Margitaland event are the Fort Madison Community Hospital and Two Rivers Insurance. Holtkamp Floors Décor & Furniture is the balloon sponsor with one lucky winner receiving two tickets to the Jimmy Buffet concert May 22 in Des Moines. Individual balloons will be sold the night of the event and all popped at a designated time with one person winning the tickets. Additional donations were received from Connection Bank, Bickels Cycling, and ACCO.
