FM's Auge, Santiago on list for 8th District judicial seat

DES MOINES - According to Judge Mary Ann Brown, the chairperson of the state's 8B judicial district nominating commission, six area candidates have submitted their name as candidates for a seat vacated by District Judge John Linn.

Linn submitted his letter of retirement, effective Dec. 14. The 8th Judicial District was granted approval to fill the vacancy and the application deadline closed at noon on Friday.

The candidates who've submitted their names for consideration include:

Kimberly A. Auge, a Fort Madison attorney; Amy K. Beavers, with the Des Moines County Attorney's office; Adam D. Parson, an attorney with the Louisa County Attorney's office; Wyatt Peterson, a Winfield attorney in the Henry County Attorney's office; Artemio Santiago, a Fort Madison attorney with the Lee County Attorney's office; and Heidi D. Van Winkle, a criminal defense attorney in Burlington.

Interviews will be conducted on Wednesday, at the Des Moines County Courthouse, 513 North Main Street, Burlington, Iowa. The interviews will be open for public observation and listening. The public shall not be allowed to ask questions or make comments. Applicant submissions and materials will be open to the public.

Prior to May 30, 2018, the public will be permitted to submit comments or recommendations regarding the qualifications of an applicant by email to cathy.reck@iowacourts.gov.

The Commission will submit the names of two nominees to Governor Reynolds, who will then appoint one within 30 days.
