Early primary voting ongoing until June 4

FORT MADISON - You can still vote in person at the Lee County Auditor's Office, 933 Avenue H, Fort Madison from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and at the South Lee Courthouse, 25 N. 7th Street, Keokuk from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Residents can vote until 5 p.m. on June 4th. These locations will also be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 2nd.

Rich Harlow of Montrose and Larry Haynes of rural Donnellson, both Democrats, are facing off in the primary for the right to face James Steffen, who is the only Republican on the primary ballot for the District 3 Lee County Supervisor race.

Bob Morawitz and Jeff Kurtz, both Fort Madison democrats will be squaring off in the primary for the Iowa House 83 District seat being vacated with the retirement of State Rep. Jerry Kearns of Keokuk. The winner will face Jeffrey Reichman, the only Republican on the primary ballot.

In District 84, Martin Amos, Trevor Lynn, Sheila Matheney and Joe Mitchell, all Republicans will vye for a chance to face Jason Moats, the only Democrat on the primary ballot for that Iowa House seat. That district does cover part of north and western Lee County.

Rich Larkin is running unopposed for the district 2 supervisory seat.

The governor's face features a full ballot of five democrats and two libertarians to face Kim Reynolds in the general election. A sixth Democrat, Nate Boulton has suspended his campaign after word of misconduct surfaced last week.

The other Democrats include Cathy Glasson, Fred Hubbell, Andrea McGuire, John Norris and Ross Wilburn. Libertarians on the ballot include Marco Battagila and Jake Porter.

Diedre DeJear and Jim Mowrer are battling to take on Paul Pate in the general election for Secretary of State, and Secretary of Agriculture has five republicans including Ray Gaesser, Chad Ingels, Craig Lang, Mike Naig, and Dan Zumbach on the ballot to challenge democrat Tim Gannon in the general.

On Election Day, you must go to your regular voting site. Polls are open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Voters will be asked to show their ID before voting. This can be an Iowa driver's license, a non-operator's ID, passport, military ID, veteran's ID or voter ID card provided by the State. Any registered voter that does not have their ID will be asked to sign an oath verifying their identity and will be allowed to cast a regular ballot. Registered voters who do not have an Iowa driver's license or a non-operator's ID should have received a Voter ID card in the mail. If you have moved within the County and have not changed your address with the Auditor's Office, you must show proof of identity and residency at the polls. Unregistered voters can still register and vote, but must provide proof of identity and residency.
