Old Settlers Park concert series kicks off June 22

FORT MADISON - The Old Settlers "Music in the Park" free summer concert series gets underway this month as part of the groups 18th year putting on the event.

At each concert, dinner is served by volunteers at 5 p.m. with the free concert taking place from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m..

This year's three-concert series kicks off on June 22 with Amarillo out of Mt. Pleasant, as well as the 4th Annual Pen City Cruisers Car Show. The Fort Madison Lions Club will be assisting serving the meals. The menu will consist of a grilled chicken sandwich or jumbo beef hot dog, sides, dessert and cold drinks.

On Friday July 27, Richie Lee and the Fabulous 50's from Des Moines will be back by popular demand. The Lee County Pork Producers will be grilling pork loin sandwiches with sides, dessert and cold drinks.

Then on Aug. 18, the River City 6 returns to the park with the Local Elk's Lodge serving grilled chicken, coney dogs, sides, desserts and drinks.

The park is located at Fourth Street and Avenue E, and all proceeds from food sales go toward maintenance and improvements in Old Settlers Park.

Concerts are rain or shine with rain location at First United Methodist Church at 9th Street and Avenue E in Fort Madison.

Jim Baier Ford, Connection Bank, Fort Madison Community Hospital, Preceptor Delta Phi Sorority, Pilot Grove Savings Bank, MidwestOne Bank, Dan Willits, Seither and Cherry Services, and Rose Briggs Memorial. Contributions toward expenses have also been received from DuPont, Iowa Fertilizer Plant, and the Doddie Jerome Memorial.

On Oct. 30, Old Settlers Park will be the scene of Halloween Trick or Treat night in Old Settlers Park from 5 to 7 p.m. Fraise Real Estate will provide a light supper to families, with OSA volunteers hosting the evening of safe, friendly, monitored, and lighted fun for all families. Groups can also reserve a table to hand out treats by calling 372-7813.

The Old Settlers Park committee is focused on family friendly and free community events in historical Old Settlers Park.
