BURLINGTON - Registration for the only Gus Macker 3-on-3 basketball tournament in Iowa in 2018 is now open. The tournament will be held on August 4 & 5 in downtown Burlington between the Memorial Auditorium and the Port of Burlington. Players of all ages and abilities are encouraged to sign up.

A Gus Macker is a 3-on-3 half court basketball tournament played in communities all over the nation. The tournament is designed for basketball players who love the fun of the driveway game. Whether you are male or female, age 7 to 70, experienced or not, there is a spot for you. Teams will be placed into divisions based upon their age and experience. Junior divisions are broken down into ages 10 & under, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16 and 17-18. Adult divisions (19 & Over) are computer matched according to average age, height and playing experience of all four players. 30 and over divisions are divided into 30-34, 35-39 and 40 and over. The Top Divisions are comprised of the teams with the most experienced level of play. Players compete to win the Macker Trophy – a bronze bust of Macker Man. Teams that lose their first two games compete to win in the consolation bracket dubbed “The Toilet Bowl”.

To keep the games clean and friendly, registered officials will be on every court calling fouls and violations.

Aside from the games, the entire weekend was designed to have a family fun atmosphere with plenty of entertainment for everyone. Inside the event grounds will be the Family Fun Zone located in Memorial Auditorium. Here children will be able to jump to their hearts content on bounce houses and practice on small basketball hoops for when they are old enough to play in a Gus Macker. For adult spectators, Front Street will be blocked off to house Vendor’s Court – the home to a variety of food trucks and local vendors selling goods of all sorts.

To register a four-person team logon to Macker.com/burlington-ia. Team entry fee is $144. Mail-in deadline is July 13 and online deadline is July 16. Sponsored by Great River Health System.
