HTC junior high girls split final doubleheaders

FORT MADISON - The HTC junior high softball girls played their final two games this past week against New London and Van Buren. HTC finished with a record of 12-10.
On Tuesday, June 19th, the Crusaders split with New London 6-15 and 15-5.
In the first game loss Breanna Peterson and Kelli Meierotto each had two hits. Lora Mehmert, Rachel Menke, Kayla Box, Mary Hellige, Paige Wasielewski, Alesha Hellman and Reagan Holvoet all had one hit. Rachel Menke was the losing pitcher with Anna Sobczak and Natalie Randolph pitching in relief.
HTC won the second game 15-5 with Box leading the way at the plate with four hits. Hellige and Mehmert had three hits each, while Raquel Schneider, Sobczak and Wasielewski each had 2 hits. Hellige lead with four RBI, Schneider, Box, Mehmert each had two RBI, Sobczak,Wasielewski and Alexa Dingman each had one RBI. Hellige went the distance to pick up the win striking out four batters.
On Monday, HTC split again, this time against Van Buren losing the first game in a 14-0 shutout and then rebounding for a 7-1 win in the nightcap.
In the first game the Warriors pitched a no-hitter against Holy Trinity. Menke took the loss with Sobczak coming on in relief.
Box had three hits in the 7-1 win in game two. Wasielewski had two hits, Menke and Meierotto each had a hit. Wasielewski, Box, and Hellige all had one RBI and Menke drove in two. Hellige was the winning pitcher going five innings allowing just three hits while striking out five.
HTC finished 12-10 in their second year of re-organized softball.
