Nellie Ruth McVay, 91 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa, died at 7:20 am Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at the Donnellson Health Center, Donnellson, Iowa. She was born April 30, 1927 at Donnellson, Iowa, a daughter of Walter D. and Alma M. (Krehbiel) Krebill. On February 15, 1953, she married Ronald E. McVay at Donnellson, Iowa. He preceded her in death November 14, 2004.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of the United Transportation Union Auxiliary and the National Association of Railroad Veterans and Railroad Employees. She was an active member of the Santa Fe United Methodist Church, now the Fort Madison United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 20 years. She was a member of their Santa Fe Ladies group and was a past president of United Methodist Women. She enjoyed hand-stitching quilts and playing cards. For 17 years, Nellie and her husband, Ronald, wintered in Mission, Texas.
She is survived by one son, Steven R. (wife Debbie) McVay, of Donnellson, Iowa; one daughter, Wendy Hartzel, of Edwardsville, Illinois; one granddaughter, Sydney Hartzel, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Roy Krebill and Arlo Krebill and two sisters, Celia Boltinghouse and Ethel Krebill.
Family will greet friends from 9:30 - 10:30 am Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, with Reverend Dave Barrett officiating. Burial will be at Soldiers’ Circle, Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison. A memorial has been established for the Shriners Children Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison.
