According ISEA President Mike Beranek, Slater has created a culture in Fort Madison in the short time she's been in position. Slater was hired in the summer of 2016 to replace retiring Superintendent Dr. Ken Marang. "It is clear that in her short time as Superintendent, Erin has created a collegial and creative learning environment for educators and in turn, a supportive and learning environment for the students," Beranek said. Slater said the working together with educators is how the district as whole does what's best for students. "I am honored to be recognized by the ISEA in support of the great partnerships we have in the Fort Madison Community School District," Slater wrote in a text to the Pen City Current.
