V. Darlene Byrne, 87, of Keokuk died Saturday, August 4, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, IA.

She was born on June 25, 1931 in Antioch, MO the daughter of Glen and Pearl Stehl Vice. Darlene graduated from Keokuk Senior High School with the Class of 1948.

On January 11, 1950 she was united in marriage to Phil Myers at the Great Lakes Naval Base. They later divorced. On August 1, 1970 she was united in marriage to Arthur E. Byrne in Payson, IL. He preceded her in death on January 26, 1992.

She had worked as a bookkeeper for Doctor Kasiske in Keokuk and retired in 1989.

Darlene was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk and had most recently attended the Church of the Nazarene in Montrose, IA. She was a member of the Keokuk Area Hospital Auxiliary and was a volunteer in the Hospital Gift Shop and in surgical waiting. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a former member of the Southside Boat Club and the Keokuk Yacht Club.

Darlene enjoyed spending time with her friends and looked forward to monthly lunches with her high school classmates. She was a loving mother and grandmother and especially enjoyed the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by three sons, Phil Myers and his wife Kathy, Danny Myers, Glen Myers and his wife Donna all of Keokuk, one step-son, Mike Byrne and his wife Pam of Keokuk, nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband she was also preceded in death by one step-son, Don Byrne, one step-son, Pat Byrne, one grandson, Jeremy Byrne, two brothers, Forrest Vice and Edward Vice and two sisters, Audrey Seltzer and Ann Glasscock.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Preston Smith and Pastor Dan Deatrick officiating. Burial will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 1 p.m., Monday at the funeral home with the family meeting with friends from 6 – 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Great River Hospice House, the Montrose Church of the Nazarene, St. Paul United Church of Christ of Keokuk or the Alzheimer’s Association.
