Conservation hosting youth dove hunt

FORT MADISON - Lee County Conservation invites youth along with a mentor to participate in a Youth Dove Hunt. The two-part event will take place on Friday, August 31st and Saturday, September 1st.

The first part will be held on Friday evening from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tri State Gun Club. During this portion of the event, youth will learn about hunting regulations, review gun handling, and practice trap shooting. Dinner will also be served.

On Saturday morning, youth and their mentors will head to the field for the dove hunting portion of the event. The hunting portion will take place from 5:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Heron Bend Wildlife Area. The area will be closed to all other hunters during the youth hunt.

Youth will need to provide their own gun and ammo for the event. If a child cannot provide their own equipment or does not have a mentor who can join them, Lee County Conservation will work with the child to ensure those needs are meet.

The event is open to ages 12 to 15. To register for the Youth Hunt, please call the Lee County Conservation office at (319) 463-7673. The last day to register for the event is Friday, August 24th. There are a limited amount of spots available for this program. Participants are encourage to register early.
