FORT MADISON - A man has died as a result of a two-vehicle accident just north of Fort Madison Saturday night.

Emergency crews responded to the scene at around 8:30 p.m. Saturday night on old Hwy. 61 north of Fort Madison about quarter mile before the on ramp to the bypass where a Chevrolet pickup had collided with a motorcycle close the intersection of 201st Street.

Emergency crews from Wever Fire and Rescue, Lee County EMS, Lee County Sheriff's Department, and the Fort Madison Police Department, in addition to witnesses at the scene, administered CPR to the victim. A rescue helicopter out of Great River Medical Center landed on the southbound lane but left without the victim a short time later. Law enforcement at the scene confirmed the victim had died before they could get him loaded.

A witness headed in the northbound lane on the highway at the time of the accident said she saw headlights heading southbound come across the median where a motorist asked the witness to call 911.

The identity of the victim and additional details on the accident were not available as of this posting.
