KEOKUK - As the seasons begin to cool, the United Way of the Great River Region is heating up it's fundraising efforts.

During the week of Sept. 4, 2018, the UWGRR will kick off the Fall 2018 campaign with a goal of raising $250,000 to fund needs in the tri-county area.

“Together Everyone Achieves More”, and the United Way is inviting everyone in Clark, Hancock and Lee counties to be part of this year’s “TEAM”. Efforts will support agencies in the tri-county area in three priorities:

Education: helping children and youth achieve their potential through education

Health: improving people’s health and access to services

Income: helping families become financially stable and independent

“Our 2018 United Way Campaign is one of the most important parts of the United Way as an organization,” said Board President, Jason Dixon.

"This is where we build our funding for the next year, to supply funds to our partner agency’s throughout the Lee, Hancock, and Clark counties. These partner agencies then provide support back to our communities helping 1,000s of people each year. I ask that people in our community consider helping out with our United Way Campaign by donating, that way the United Way is able to give more back to our communities.”

Some of the highlights this year include:

Grant funding to 27 funded partnering agencies in the tri-county area ; Literacy Projects in four elementary schools use volunteers to help students reading below grade level; Volunteers enrolled in the 55+ Initiative/Retired Senior Volunteer Program provided services to 20 community organizations; Volunteer Tax Assistance Program in partnership with the IRS helped 192 taxpayers; and the Back-to-School Festival in conjunction with Trinity United Methodist Church distributed 750 backpacks filled with school supplies.

For every dollar that is donated, 99 cents of your gift to the United Way of the Great River Region stays in the tri-county area. For more information on how to participate contact, 319-524-4504.
