FORT MADISON - If you have a creative spark, enjoy community theater or just want to come make some new friends, the Old Fort Players theater is looking for you!

Stop by the downtown Fort Madison location at 725 Ave. G on Sept. 18th and 20th at 6 p.m. to audition for the Christmas production of Making God Laugh. The audition will simply require a reading from the script. There’s nothing to memorize and no previous experience is required.

OFP is looking for new faces for this show so don’t be shy if you’ve never been on stage before. Join the cast of Old Fort Players next production and you can check it off your bucket list.

An additional night on Sept, 21st at 6 p.m. has also been set aside for auditions. Call-backs for anyone needing closer consideration for a role will also be held on the 21st. You can also contact OFP via Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=old%20fort%20players

Cast members must be available for rehearsals during October and November as well as any publicity opportunities that may arise. Check your calendar to be sure you’re available for show dates (December 7-9 and 14-16).

Directed by Angela Sanford, Making God Laugh by Sean Grennan, will be presented by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc. (www.playscripts.com). The play follows one typical American family over the course of thirty years' worth of holidays. Starting in 1980, Ruthie and Bill's grown children -- a priest, an aspiring actress, and a former football star -- all return home, where we learn of their plans and dreams as they embark on their adult lives. The empty-nester parents contend with their own changes, too, as old family rituals are trotted out and ancient tensions flare up. As time passes, the family discovers that, despite what we may have in mind, we often arrive at unexpected destinations.

The cast calls for 2 Women and 3 Men who age 30 years as the play progresses. Ruthie, the bossy but well-meaning mother and Bill, the easy-going father start out in their 40’s and ages into their 70’s. Their children are Richard, (late 20’s to 50’s) the stylish entrepreneur; Maddie (mid-20’s to 50’s) the strong-willed artist; and Thomas, (early 20’s-50’s) the even-tempered ‘good’ son.

If you’re not quite the type who likes being in the spotlight, you can still be a part of the fun. OFP is always looking for hard-working, organized people to be stage managers, set crews, sound and light technicians as well as costume/prop stylists and makeup artists. There’s even a spot for those who enjoy working with the public by selling concessions during performances. Stop by on audition nights to volunteer or send us a message on Facebook.
