LCCB monarch program at Pollmiller Friday

WEST POINT - Lee County Conservation’s annual Monarch Butterfly program will take place Friday, September 21^st, 2018 from 5:30-7:00pm at Pollmiller Park. Pollmiller is located on the east side of West Point along County Rd 103.

A Lee County Conservation naturalist will teach participants about the life cycle of monarch butterflies and will guide butterfly catching and tagging in the prairie. Butterfly nets will be provided. Attendees will also assist Lee County Conservation’s Wildlife Manager in a prairie seed collection activity. The seeds collected will be used to boost diversity for thirsty pollinators at Heron Bend Park.

The program will provide an opportunity to participate in Journey North’s 23^rd annual Symbolic Migration by creating life-sized paper butterflies that will be sent to elementary schools in Mexico.

Attendees are encouraged to dress for the weather. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are recommended. The event will be canceled if there is inclement weather. All weather related cancellations will be made on the Lee County Conservation's Facebook page.
