Holy Trinity boys earn 2nd at Indian Lake

FARMINGTON - The Holy Trinity cross country team earned second place at the Indian Lakes Cross Country Invitational Tuesday night at Farmington.

Junior Matt Hellige continues to lead the Crusaders at invitational runs with top five finishes. Hellige's time of 18:08 was good enough for second place at the Invite behind Van Buren's Jonah Heckenberg's 17:38.

HTC's Jacob Morhfeld had one of his brightest runs of the year taking 6th place with a time of 19:35 and freshman Mitchell Pothitakis broke into a top 10 finish with a time of 20:42.

Other scoring finishes for the Crusaders included Brant Holtkamp at 11th with a time of 20:47, Adam Rauenbuehler in 12th with a time of 20:54. The top five finishers figure into the scoring with their places being added together to determine the team score. The team with the lowest score wins the run.

Van Buren finished with 20 points having five of the top seven finishers. Holy Trinity had 41 points followed by Cardinal and Central Lee.

Other finishers for the Crusaders included Sam Avery at 21:07 (14th), Chandler Rung at 21:11 (15th), Michael Hellman 21:52 (19th), Wyatt Hellman 22:46 (22nd), and Josh Barr 23:56 (24th).

In the middle school girls' run, Holy Trinity's Mary Hellige finished at 21:02 five second ahead of Elliot Dostalek's 21:07. Mary Kate Bendlage crossed at 21:35.

In the boys' middle school run Jacob Pothitakis took first place with a 16:51. Nick Fullenkamp finished at 17:30, Sheldon Kruse took 8th at 18:59, Ed Schroeder was 10th at 19:38. Other finishers for HTC included Henry Morris at 20:34, Maddex Rung at 22:40 and Connor Gehling at 23:20.
