Brian Melvin Schrader, 67, of Hamilton, IL, died Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the Sunset Home in Quincy, IL.

He was born on May 28, 1951 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Melvin and Susannah Gordon Schrader. He graduated from Warsaw High School with the Class of 1969.

Brian was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He served his country during the Vietnam War and was stationed at the Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage AK Base. He received his honorable discharge with the rank of Staff Sargent in 1974.

He had been employed at Union Electric/Ameren in Keokuk and retired after 30 years of service. In his younger years he assisted his parents at the Schrader Grocery Store in Sutter, IL.

He was a member of the Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Sutter.

He enjoyed yardwork, gardening and working on cars. He always assisted his parents in their years of volunteering with the American Red Cross. In later years, he was the caretaker for his mother. Brian was a dependable, caring and organized man who will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his mother, Susannah of Hamilton, aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his father and his brother, Lynn Schrader.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the Bethlehem United Church of Christ Cemetery in Sutter with Reverend Mark Binder officiating.

There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Bethlehem United Church of Christ, the Hamilton United Methodist Church or the Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department.

The Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk is assisting the family with arrangements.
